Nashik: Dhule district collector Bhagyashri Vispute and superintendent of police Shrikant Dhivare visited the Civil Hospital in Dhule on Saturday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, where an abandoned newborn girl, about 4 days old, has been hospitalised.

The visit was to check on the girl and her condition, highlighting the administration's emphasis on supporting the girl child.

On Jan 1, the girl was found abandoned at the Siddheshwar Mahadev temple in the Panchavati area of Dhule under the Devpur police station. After the Devpur police received information, a team led by an officer reached the spot and took the baby to the Civil Hospital.

Inspector Samadhan Wagh said they have registered a case against the unidentified mother of the child under section 93 of the BNS for abandoning a girl under 12 years of age.

Wagh added they are checking the CCTV footage of the area where the girl was found abandoned to find out who left the girl near the temple. The police said they are also checking with hospitals with maternity wards to trace her mother and find out where the baby was born.
