Chandigarh: Female infanticide is becoming a deeply disturbing issue in northern part of the country because of unethical medical practitioners, the Punjab and Haryana high court has observed while refusing to grant anticipatory bail to a renowned doctor of Haryana’s Hisar district.
The court has observed that despite the prohibitions in PCPNDT Act, some doctors clandestinely perform these tests, betraying their ethical commitments and principles of medical practice.
The Hippocratic Oath demands that doctors protect life and cause no harm; however, some practitioners, motivated by greed, become complicit in extermination of female foetuses. “The involvement of unethical medical practitioners in facilitating this practice through clandestine sex determination tests is particularly reprehensible, as it represents the betrayal of the very principles of the medical profession,” observed the court.
