According to reports, local residents noticed a suspicious bundle wrapped in a towel lying under the barrage in the morning hours. On closer inspection, they were shocked to discover a newborn baby inside and immediately alerted the authorities.
A team from the Odisha Fire Services wing at Barang rushed to the spot and safely recovered the infant. The baby was then promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for medical examination and care.
Officials said the newborn’s health condition is being assessed, while further steps will be taken as per standard child protection protocols. Police have also been informed and are expected to begin an inquiry to trace those responsible for abandoning the child.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for awareness and support systems to prevent such acts, with locals praising the quick response of the fire services team in saving the infant’s life.
