A newborn’s body was discovered abandoned in a washroom dustbin at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday night, prompting a police investigation.
According to Mumbai Police, airport security alerted them around 10:30 p.m. after the infant was found in a dustbin at Terminal 2. A police team arrived at the scene, and the newborn was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared the baby brought dead.
The Sahar police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person under sections 91 ( intent to prevent a child from being born alive or to cause death after birth) and 94 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of the dead body) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Officials are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the suspect.
“We are actively investigating the case and working to identify the individual responsible for abandoning the newborn,” a senior police officer stated.
