Chatra: The body of a newborn baby girl was found beside a drain near Kathotiya pond near the civil surgeon’s office in Chatra district on Tuesday, police said.

The body suggested that the newborn had been dumped shortly after birth, police added.

SDPO Sandeep Suman recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death. “The police are conducting investigation to identify the person or persons involved. Abandoning a newborn in this manner is not only a grave crime but also a shameful act for society,” SDPO Suman said.
